    Hello everyone,

I am building the model of the BBÖ 1470.001 locomotive and I am looking for the correct color scheme.
The typical color scheme for Austrian electric locomotives should have the frame painted black and the body in "tannengrun" Ral 6009 but since it was only a prototype of a locomotive could it perhaps have another color scheme?
For example, all black both the lower frame and the upper body?
I would be very grateful if there was someone who could give me useful information to complete the model.

See you soon and best regards

BBÖ-locomotives usually were painted in RAL 6005, "Moosgrün". Later, for ÖBB-locomotives, the RAL 6009 was in use.

This Kando-Loco was produced by Ganz in Budapest, maybe it originally came in grey colour with black lines to Austria, but, having a look at the photos, it seems to be the "Moosgrün" I mentioned above.

Is the kit announced by Giorgio Donzello already available? I would be highly interested!

    :)

    LG Michael

    Hi Michael,

many thanks for your comment about the 1470 color layout and I hope to receive other suggestions from forum friends in order to have a cross comparison and a useful discussion.

Anyway this is a good starting point.

Concerning the loco kit it was prepared by Giorgio and this kit is the first and only kit prepared up to now.

I hope to show the first assembly steps during the next days.

    Thank you very much again.

I´m looking forward to reporting from your handicraft! :38:

Hat keiner von Euch Ideen zur Farbgebung? Ansonsten ziehen sich solche Diskussionen bei uns ja seitenlange hin... :(;)

    Hello Beppe!

Maby the colour scheme is simmilar to the kkStB 1060....located in "Technischen Museum Wien". Guess this lokomotive is some years younger...

    Dear friends,

many thanks again for your comments and contributions.

I understood what should be the color I should use but I have some considerable doubts.

Looking at all the photographs available to me, if the machine had been painted moss green, I should see images with the body tending towards grey, perhaps dark grey, since the photos were in black and white. Instead, I seem to see the locomotive body as black, better still shiny black. I would not want this machine to be painted black since it is a preliminary prototype. Another twin machine of this one, built for the FS, the locomotive E 471, also built in a single example, again by Eng. Kalman Kando from CEMSA in Saronno, practically a twin of your machine 1470, was painted black.
Since it was perhaps never officially delivered to the BBÖ, perhaps it also remained painted black. We will see what to do.
In any case, I am attaching some images of the model under construction.
See you soon and thanks again.

I'm also looking forward to seeing the finished 1470, as I'm building one in a 3D modeling program as well. Nice work so far!

    Dear friend,

I would have an explanation about the BBÖ pantograph.

The picture shows the loco pantograph that have two different

electric sliding contacts, a smaller one at inner side and a larger one.

Why this solution applied only on austian railway ?

Could I have a technical document or technical description that explain this ?

    Many thanks

    Beppe

I think the inner contact was for the Arlberg tunnel which had a narrower profile for the pantographs until the tracks were lowered later.

Da bin ich auch ganz meiner Meinung

This pantograph is called "ÖSSW 1", the following text is from a pdf that I downloaded from somewhere, I dont know the source:

Some years ago I have tried to imitate these "tunnel-pantographs" on my BBÖ 1080.0 :

    Dear freinds,

the work continues and we are at the completion of the upper body of the model. I am waiting for the new gears needed for the new transmission that will then be inserted into the locomotive frame.
As usual I am sending some images of the model.
    See you soon

    Dear friends,

Here we are at the end of the work on the 1470 model.
It was not easy! The assembly kit was particularly difficult and I had to introduce many changes to the transmission with new gears and correct some youthful errors present in the Donzello kit. This is the only kit that Giorgio has prepared.
A big unknown lies in the painting: unfortunately there are no color images nor do the B/W ones give great indications about the colors used, especially if we consider that this was an experimental machine, a single example.
In conclusion, after having made several attempts, I decided to follow the scheme of the first Austrian machines using moss green and silver gray for the roof.
This is the result that I like and is very convincing: I don't know if you also agree but I will send you your considerations.
As usual, I attach some images of the finished model.
I hope you will appreciate them.
    See you soon
    Beppe
